Big Bertha TM Retail US$495, BMW powered
Putter Retail US$76,000
an explanation is in
order...
Start with a little 'one
lunger' D7 diesel. Add some exotic
woods, some leather, gold plating of
course, and a Master Craftsman from
Sacramento.
Instead of a golf bag
however you'll need a pair of davits on
the side of your 145' Yacht! Yes this
'Putter' is a 'Tender'. She's a beauty.
At just 13' long that's $5,846.15 per
foot. In metric it's just €$14.39 per
millimeter.
Back and forth from the Yacht to the
Casino, Calliope will 'Putt' your guests
in grand style. The faithful D7 happily
does her job, but deep down she'd prefer
to be racing in an S2 7.9 or cruising in
a Pearson Flyer. She is a 'BMW'. But
such is life... with the Rich and
Famous.
If you are on first name
basis with Tiger or Phil or VJ, drop
them a line: " You
are welcome to come join our club."
Life's good...

* his son, Reeves
Callaway, is known for his 'Callaway'
Corvette, the equivalent to Germany's
AMG, Alpina and A.G. Schnitzer . . .
Reeves started his career 'Turbocharging',
BMW 320i's 20 years back.
** Actually it's
DRIVE for Show and Putt for DOUGH !
90 % of diesel engine problems are
the Diesel Fuel. All BMW diesels, from
the 'Racer' D7 to the latest 'tunnel
bore' D636, should fire immediately.
Hard starting is the first sign that
something is going wrong. The sooner you
act, the more money you'll save, the
less damage you'll do! It's that simple!
Using the 'decompression' lever on the
D7 and D12's, even hand crank starting
is 'no drama'. Feed clean fuel to your
Bimmer and you're 90% of the way home.
Just 10% of engine problems are
mechanical. And that's when you need a
professional.
"
Hello Denis ? Dennis Bastian ? HELP !"
Here is your check list:
- Are the fuel tanks clean?
- Did I change the fuel filter
last fall?
- Is the screen on top of the lift
pump clean?
- Are the fadditives in the fuel?
- Is the lift fuel pump still the
original?
Note: Lift ( fuel pump with a
primer lever) Pumps on most diesels
last about 15 years, then the
diaphragms give out. If you are a
Power boater it is wise to carry a
spare.
- Are all fuel line connections
tight? Is there an air leak
anywhere?
OK until here? Still hard starting?
Decision time.
Continue on... or go back to 1, or take
out your Credit Card.
If your engine was getting hard to start
last year, maybe before sailing and
boating season gets into full swing (the
salmon are running in Port Ludlow,
Washington State now and the Steelhead
run starts soon in Buffalo N.Y.), check
your fuel system, do a spring cleaning,
and give us a call if it is beyond a
fuel problem. It is best to catch
problems early and cheaper too.

Our business takes us
all 'round the world'.
One of our first different bases we
touched was the island of Malta,
stranded 60 miles south of Sicily Italy,
on the freeway of the Mediterranean. The
BMW Marine dealer there in the 80's was
very active, and not just in power boats
but also sail boats. If you are ever
there look up Albert Santucci at his
Antiques store in St. Julians.
Because of this connection I picked up
this book. Monsarrat is one of those
magicians with words, like BMW is at
making cars and engines. I found it a
long read, but absolutely an amazing
story. If 10 % of this is real...
If you have an 'On Board Library' this
is worth the weight. A great place to
park ones grey matter away from the
hustle and bustle of life, and to help
us all be thankful for what we do have.
Worth having a 'Hard Cover'.

As bombs pound Malta to dust, Father
Salvatore--a simple priest, or kappillan,
serving the poor--finds himself caught
in the drama of World War Two. In the
fragile safety of catacombs revealed by
the explosions, he tends to the flood of
homeless, starving, and frightened
people seeking shelter, giving messages
of inspiration and hope. His story, and
that of the island, unfold in superbly
graphic images of six days during the
siege. "...one of the most memorable
characters of postwar fiction"--Daily
Express.
Who was Monsarrat?
The son of a distinguished surgeon,
Nicholas Monsarrat was born in Liverpool
in 1910 and was educated at Winchester
and Trinity College, Cambridge. His
first book to attract attention was the
largely autobiographical This Is the
Schoolroom, published in 1939.
On the outbreak of war he joined the
RNVR, serving mainly with corvettes: his
wartime experiences are vividly
described in The Three Corvettes and
Depends What You Mean by Love. In 1946
he became a director of the UK
Information Service in Johannesburg and
subsequently in Ottawa.
His most famous book, The Cruel Sea,
published in 1951, is one of the most
successful stories of all time and was
made into a film starring Jack Hawkins.
Other famous novels include: The Tribe
that Lost its Head and its sequel,
Richer than All his Tribe, The Story of
Esther Costello, The White Rajah and The
Pillow Fight. Monsarrat lived with his
wife, Ann, in Malta.

As you no doubt own a
BMW Marine engine, you may also wish to
keep an eye on what happens at the
'Parent' Company.
The
membership is but $40.00 per year, but
each month in the mail you'll receive
your ROUNDEL magazine.
This club has over
70,000 members, and I suspect is
strongest in the East (America). There
are chapters all over America and for
you curious Georges out there the
average income of their members is north
of $100,000.00 per year (I joined
immediately hearing that) nothing like
setting goals... and 'Associating'. Or
is it now called NETWORKING ?
Try it . . you'll like
it. And if not.. No Worries!
